The Hotel Riviera in Tunisia has been the subject of various complaints from British holidaymakers who have reported outbreaks of holiday illness.
Your Holiday Claims have previously reported on outbreaks of illness at the Hotel Riviera, with complaints dating back to 2006. Recently, we have reported on the story of one of our clients who was awarded £3,000 in compensation after an anniversary holiday was ruined by illness.
Our client had stayed at the Hotel Riviera in April 2013 and had contracted cryptosporidiosis, a severe gastric illness. It is thought that the illness had been contracted from either watered down drinks or the poor condition of the indoor swimming pool.
British holidaymakers have repeatedly questioned the conditions at the Thomas Cook provided hotel. Many visitors have reported finding unclean hotel rooms, poorly maintained pools, and undercooked food.
Others who have stayed at the hotel have used the website TripAdvisor to comment on the poor hygiene standards witnessed. One holidaymaker recently stated: âOur room was not cleaned properly in 17 days.
âThe corridors are filthy, glasses, cups, and plates were left for days on tables near the lifts. It was the same in the area across from the coffee shop and the bar area, nothing is cleared away. The food is cold with no hot platesâ.
There have been a number of reports relating to undercooked food, one of the prime causes of holidaymakers falling ill on holiday, with a visitor from Birmingham saying: âThere was scaffolding in the indoor pool area as it was being painted. There was green mould on the walls around the window and it looked nothing like the photos on the website.
âThe food was cold and we were not the only couple to complain so they used a microwave to warm the food upâ.
Tracy Stansfield, an experienced holiday claims solicitor at Your Holiday Claims, stated: âThe continuing complaints regarding the Hotel Riviera is concerning. Both the hotel management and tour operators have a duty of care towards holiday makers. They have to uphold standards in order to safeguard the health and safety of hotel guests.
âReports from holidaymakers online do refer to a recent change in management at the Hotel Riviera. We would hope that the health of holidaymakers will not be overlooked during any transitional periodâ.
