Here at Your Holiday Claims we have been contacted by a British holidaymaker who has reportedly contracted Verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC) whilst staying at Tirana Aqua Park in Naqb Bay, Sharm El Sheikh.
VTEC is a highly unpleasant strain of E. coli which causes severe symptoms such as abdominal cramps and bloody diarrhoea; the virus is commonly contracted by consuming water or produce contaminated with faeces.
Further reports of illness have also circulated the Egyptian resort and numerous recent guests have commented on their experiences on review website TripAdvisor.
âThe food was shocking. After having an omelette, me and my partner started to feel really ill. Half of the food was left out for a while and not hot just lukewarm.
âAfter a week in the hotel me and my partner started to become really ill, it got that bad we had to make a visit to the pharmacy to get tablets and was still ill when arriving home.
âMost of the people who we spoke to in the hotel were ill as wellâ, reported a recent visiting couple.
Another holidaymaker affected by illness at the hotel commented: âThe food gave us all some sort of stomach bug/infection because the meat served seemed a bit off-ish.â
Tracy Stansfield, an expert travel law solicitor at Your Holiday Claims, commented: âVTEC is a highly unpleasant illness and it is very worrying to hear of a British holidaymaker contracting this whilst abroad.
âI would urge the tour operators using this hotel to take immediate action to ensure it does not affect any further guests.â
