A British holidaymaker has contacted Your Holiday Claims after contracting salmonella on holiday at the Marmaris Palace in Turkey.
The family of four travelled to the hotel in July 2014 but quickly fell ill suffering numerous symptoms of gastric illness. As a result, the whole family was admitted to hospital for treatment.
It was on their return to the UK that their GP diagnosed them with having contracted a salmonella infection causing severe symptoms of gastroenteritis.
Gastroenteritis is an intestinal infection causing symptoms including sickness and diarrhoea. Holidaymakers are most at risk of contracting salmonella food poisoning when food is undercooked, especially meat and poultry.
Other guests have commented on the review website TripAdvisor, reporting that food âleft over from dinner is served the next dayâ. They added that the hygiene standards at the hotel are poor. They stated that a lack of cleanliness at restaurant tables âattracts insectsâ.
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented on the reports: âI am very concerned to hear that salmonella has been confirmed in the cases of the family who have approached us for help.
âSuffering an illness which requires hospital treatment whilst on holiday naturally ruins a holiday and causes a great deal of upset and worry for those involved.
âIt is of the utmost importance that the tour operators and hotel management investigate the current reports of illness at the Marmaris Palace to protect the health of all future holidaymakers.
âIf anyone has fallen ill during their stay at this hotel, I would urge them to contact myself or a member of our holiday claims team. We can offer you the advice that you need on all aspects of the claims process.â
