At Your Holiday Claims we have recently been contacted by a British holidaymaker whose husband contracted E. coli in Egypt.
The couple had travelled to the Tropicana Grand Azure Resort in Sharm el Sheikh. Â The holiday was ruined as they both experienced severe stomach bugs during their stay.
We previously reported on the Tropicana Grand Azure Resort in October 2014 as outbreaks of sickness and diarrhoea affected hotel guests.
Visitors to the hotel had claimed that âThomson are bang out of order for even letting us go thereâ.
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented: âThe current reports of illness at the Tropicana Grand Azure Resort are worrying.
âE. coli is most commonly contracted as a result of consuming food which has been contaminated with E. coli bacteria. This often causes symptoms of nausea, headaches, stomach cramps, abdominal pain and diarrhoea which can often be bloody.
âSerious complications can follow â it is rare but can happen. Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome or HUS can occur in cases where the E.coli O157:H7 strain is diagnosed â toxins get into the bloodstream and can cause injury to the kidney and sometimes kidney failure.
âI hope that the tour operators and hotel management will ensure that high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness are implemented and maintained at the Tropicana Grand Azure Resort in order to protect the health of all hotel guests.
âI would also encourage anyone who has fallen ill at this hotel to contact myself or a member of our holiday claims team for advice on the merits of making a claim for compensation.â
