Here at Your Holiday Claims we have recently received an enquiry from a British holidaymaker who contracted salmonella on holiday in Tunisia.
The holidaymaker had travelled to the Club Magic Life Imperial in Hammamet, Tunisia in October 2014 but the holiday was ruined when both members of the party were affected by illness.
The Club Magic Life Imperial is a five star hotel, promoted by tour operators including Thomson.
Visitors to the hotel have commented on the review website TripAdvisor complaining that they were served undercooked food during their stays.
One hotel guest stated: âQuality of food is extremely poor. Some frozen food is not cooked thoroughly and still cold in the middle.â
âOn day two my mum became ill. Flies everywhere are a total health hazard. All the food was uncovered, it was like a fly infestation.â
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented: âIt is always concerning to hear reports of holidaymakers contracting salmonella in all-inclusive hotels.â
âSalmonella are a group of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. This often leads to holidaymakers contracting gastroenteritis â an inflammation of the stomach or bowels resulting in symptoms including vomiting and diarrhoea.â
âWhen food such as meat and poultry is undercooked, there is a much higher risk of infection. It is vital that all hotels ensure they have in place high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness in order to guard against holidaymakers contracting such illnesses.â
âI would encourage anyone who has been affected by illness at the Club Magic Life Imperial to contact myself or a member of our expert holiday claims team for advice on all aspects of the claims process.â
