“Beware of the bug” – illness reported at Marconfort Beach Club

British holidaymakers are reporting falling ill whilst at the Marconfort Beach Club in Torremolinos, Spain.

Many have suffered symptoms of severe sickness and diarrhoea. The illness is  thought to be the result of eating undercooked food or consuming contaminated drinking water.

Many guests have commented on the illness outbreak on  the review website TripAdvisor.

One holidaymaker stated: “I had awful pains in my tummy and was violently sick and then had the runs. I was so ill and couldnt make it downstairs.”

“The location of the hotel is fabulous and the rooms are spotless, however there is definitely something lurking as previous review commented on the bug. I thought maybe this was exaggerated, however experienced myself. People were sick around the poolside too.”

“This hotel needs to have a deep clean as they do in hospital wards and hygiene levels and storage of food looked at.”

Others believed the illness may have been caused by the drinking water at the Marconfort Beach Club.

They said: “Sadly, despite using the disinfectant on entering the dining room and in the toilets, we still caught the bug and lost two days of our holiday.

“My advice is dont drink from the water machine and dont take ice with your drinks.

“Luckily its only a 48 hour bug but spoke to several others who suffered it. They should be keeping a tally of how many people have been affected by the bug and I do fear for the vulnerable i.e. children and the elderly.”

“We would always recommend that holidaymakers only drink bottled water and avoid ice in drinks wherever possible. However, hotel guests are also reliant on high food and hygiene standards being maintained by the hotel management.”
