Holidaymakers seek legal action after suffering illness at the Royal Holiday Resort, Sharm el Sheikh

Enquiries have been received by holidaymakers who have returned from Royal Holiday Resort in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

A family of three contacted the team at Your Holiday Claims having contracted “gastroenteritis” and reported “poor hygiene standards” at the Resort.

Royal Holiday Resort in Sharm El Sheikh is promoted by Thomas Cook and promoted “for families who love the water”. The all-inclusive resort features a food court, main restaurant, Italian á la carte and Teppanyaki (Japanese cuisine) bar.

One guest reported on TripAdvisor that “food and drink was a disappointment”. “I would not recommend drinking ice from the bars as it made my boyfriend and I ill” she claimed. “The food was rather hit and miss” she continued.

Another holidaymaker condemned the resort as “absolutely shocking”. “Our room was infested with ants and the food was always luke-warm and sloppy” as said.

One holiday maker claimed the Resort was “not welcoming” and “not all-inclusive”. “The reception bar has a price list that includes local spirits, tea, coffee and water – all of which are normally included in an all-inclusive package” she said.

“The food was the worst we ever had, it was the same every day with a different variation in the name. On numerous occasions, I saw the chef using the same ladle for a tomato based sauce and the meat sauce” she claimed.

Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, Anne Thomson, responded to the related claims:  “We have recently received an enquiry from a family of three who suffered symptoms of gastric illness and reported failing hygiene. It’s worrying to learn of similar reports on TripAdvisor”.

“I would urge holiday makers who have suffered sickness at Royal Holiday Resort in Sharm El Sheikh to seek medical attention if they are experiencing any ongoing symptoms and also contact our team to determine whether they are entitled to make a claim for compensation”.
