“I thought I was actually going to meet my maker”: Holidaymakers reveal Auramar anguish

Portugals Auramar Beach Resort, which is marketed by UK tour operator Thomas Cook, has been subject to some very poor reviews on website TripAdvisor.

One woman claimed, “The food is quite possibly the worst I have ever experienced…burgers covered in flies are a highlight that I shall carry to my grave”.

She continued: “I thought I was actually going to meet my maker at one point after coming down with the dreaded diarrhoea and sickness.

“There were 9 in our group and 5 came down with it (the illness), 2 being small children.”

When commenting on how the staff handled the illness outbreak, she said, “The staff were very cagey about this at reception, but you could tell that this has been going on for a long time”.

In addition to this, another poster revealed that after learning about the poor hotel conditions at the Auramar Beach Resort, they tried to cancel their holiday only to be told that it was too late.

Following this womans return home, one member of her group that stayed at the Auramar has been struck by the illness thats present at the resort.

She complained: “A group of four of us stayed at this hotel for four nights…I am so glad it wasnt any longer.

“We were all dreading catching the illness that was going around, on arrival we spoke to many guests that have fallen ill.”

When further revealing the hygiene problems that are prominent at the Portuguese hotel, this poster revealed, “The reception smelt awful, like a wet dog” and “The tiles in the bathroom were cracked, the floor was filthy, the balcony was so dirty if you could even call it balcony!”

She finished by saying, “I would advise everybody to stay away from this hotel and dont waste your money, pay a little extra to stay somewhere better”.

Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims commented: “The reports on TripAdvisor are extremely concerning”.

She added: “Thomas Cook should send health & safety experts out to the hotel to investigate matters and ensure that remedial action takes place. Flies carry faecal matter and when they land on food it becomes contaminated – this is just one of the many causes of holiday illness”.
