There have been numerous reports of illness and poor hygiene standards at the Coral Beach Rotana Resort Tiran Hotel in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.
British holidaymakers have experienced symptoms including sickness, stomach cramps, and diarrhoea at the hotel. Guests have criticised the cleanliness at the hotel after witnessing rooms infested with ants and cockroaches.
Commenting on TripAdvisor, one holidaymaker claimed that before falling ill at the resort, they had noticed that the available water was often unclean.
They stated: âThe water was brownish in colour and I had an upset stomach for most of the week even though I used bottled water for everything.â
Many others have reported that rooms and food were infested with ants and cockroaches at the Coral Beach Rotana Resort Tiran Hotel.
One holidaymaker said: âAnts were everywhere in the room. I requested some food to eat in my room. I went to the daily party and I returned one hour later and all the food was full of ants.
âThe next day the bathroom is full of ants. Around the swimming pool my son was eating on the table beside the pool and I took him for a swim. I gave him to his mum to continue feeding him but suddenly she shouted that all the food is full of ants.â
Another visitor to the hotel from Liverpool commented: âThe first night rooms 215 had a cockroach in the shower cubicle and 216 was infested with ants. More were found in both rooms, cockroaches being over three inches in size.
âOn arriving back there were at least five cockroaches again. Staff had raised a drainage lid outside our room to fumigate, making over 30 to 40 cockroaches to run and fly in various directions.
âAll of our party had regular diarrhoea throughout this holiday with stomach cramps and vomiting. I can only put this down to the cleanliness of the place as we have also stayed in Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt on three other occasions at the Easter period but in another complex and have never had ailments to the extent that various family members had been unable to leave their room due to illness.â
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented on the reports: âWe have read numerous complaints online regarding the standards of hygiene and cleanliness at the Coral Beach Rotana Resort Tiran Hotel.
âAnts or other insects which infest hotel rooms or contaminate food bring with them a serious risk of illness.
âTour operators have a duty to ensure that all the hotels they promote maintain high hygiene standards. In this case, it appears that guests at the Coral Beach Rotana Resort Tiran Hotel feel that this is not the case.
âWe would urge anyone who has fallen ill on holiday at the Coral Beach Rotana Resort Tiran Hotel to contact Your Holiday Claims as soon as possible to discover whether they could make a claim for compensation.â
