Anger over illness at Club Mac Alcudia

Holidaymakers are upset and angry as the recent outbreak of illness at the Club Mac Resort Alcudia has resulted in many being confined to their rooms and in severe cases, hospitalised.

We fear that others may be affected unless drastic action is taken to prevent the spread of infection.

One holidaymaker from Goole who stayed at the three-star resort, began suffering symptoms of suspected food poisoning upon her return to the UK.

The lady reported to have “come home ill” last week and said “The food was not great.

She added: “The last night before we left, the chicken breasts were still raw. The chef was taking the cooked chicken off the hot plate with the same ones he put raw on with.

“The day after coming home, both myself and my partner have become ill with diarrhoea.”

Tracy Stansfield, a highly qualified, experienced holiday illness claims solicitor, comments: “Holidaymakers who suffer sickness and diarrhoea abroad tend to assume these symptoms are a result of the change in climate or the change in diet and in some cases this explanation is actually put forward by tour operators and hoteliers.

“Sickness, diarrhoea, vomiting, dehydration, and nausea are common symptoms of food poisoning, which can be caused by undercooked food and cross contamination. It is not uncommon for hotels which are all-inclusive to have widespread outbreaks of illness.

“The Package Travel Regulations 1992 permit holidaymakers to claim compensation from their tour operator for holiday illness suffered abroad.

“Campylobacter, salmonella and food poisoning are amongst the most common types of holiday illness contracted on holiday.  We help hundreds of people each year to claim compensation after contracting such illnesses.

“We also help people recover any medical expenses and other financial losses which may have been incurred.

“The outbreak of illness appears to have affected many people and I hope the tour operators that promote and sell package holidays to this hotel undertake drastic action to resolve and prevent further outbreaks occurring. I would urge anyone that has been affected to contact our holiday illness helpline immediately to see if you are able to make a claim for food poisoning at Club Mac Alcudia.”
